Saleh Bay is one of the few places in the world where whale sharks turn up almost every morning, all year. The reason is simple: bagan fishermen keep bright lamps burning through the night to draw in plankton, and plankton is exactly what whale sharks feed on. We offer both private and open trips departing from Labuan Jambu, Sumbawa Besar, Poto Tano, Sekongkang, or Lombok. Each programme follows the sharks' natural timing, usually around six in the morning as the nets come up.

Is it safe to swim with whale sharks?
Yes. Whale sharks are filter feeders, not predators, and there are no recorded attacks on humans. What matters is keeping at least 3 metres away and never touching them.
When is the best time to visit?
April to November. Calmer seas, clearer water, and the bagan fishermen operating regularly. Avoid January to March if your dates are flexible.
What if no whale shark appears?
Nature is beyond our control. If you don't encounter one on arrival, we refund IDR 1,000,000 on private packages, or IDR 250,000 per person on open trips.
Can children join?
Yes, for children over 6 who can swim and are accompanied by a parent. For younger children, the Moyo Island day tour is usually a better fit.
